Hennessey names new child librarian
Hennessey’s newly-hired children’s librarian, Macee Smith, “is ready to read and do activities with the children of our town,” said Public Library Director Steven Mitchell.
“Macee remembers coming up to the library when growing up here, and it being a place she loved,” he added.
She is a “native of Hennessey” and recently worked at the Enid Pubic Schools’ daycare, said Mitchell.
Smith, 22, is a 2020 HHS graduate, has also worked as a substitute at the Hennessey Elementary School and has “lots of babysitting experience.”
Her parents are Melissa and Logan Macy and Mark and Claire Smith, all of Hennessey.
Smith started working at the library Oct. 15 and was working on a crafting project for upcoming children’s activities Tuesday morning when contacted by the KT&FP.
Head Start children usually come on Wednesdays, she said, and this Thursday kindergarten students will be there, and will also visit the Pumpkin Patch.
After-school students at the library are mainly middle school-age students who come to use the computers, or be with their friends, she said.
Smith is engaged to Spencer Streck of Hennessey.
Ruby Rodriquez recently resigned as children’s librarian to take another job. She had worked at the library since March 2023.
