Hennessey planning board oks variance

Soloman Pardo Jr. was granted a variance on review to move a double-wide mobile home onto his 200 W. Iowa property by the Hennessey Planning Board’s meeting 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Town Hall.

The variance was necessary because that section of town is zoned R-3 (high density residential) which would not allow for mobile homes unless it was “grandfathered in,” or replaced another mobile home the same size within a certain time limit.

Planning board members Richard Hedrick (chairman), Gary Stinebring and Dustin Vinson approved the variance 3-0. Absent were members Dustin Munroe and Rachel (Meloy) Rogers.

Before members voted to approve the variance they looked over the zoning map, and asked about other mobile homes on that block and were told three plus a couple of vacant houses.

The 22 home and landowners in that area were notified of the meeting if they wanted to protest “and none are here,” said Town Administrator Tiffany Tillman.

After the vote, Tillman told Pardo, “Thanks for bearing with us on this,” and told the board she’d ask them to “consider that area as a mobile home neighborhood.”

Mobile Home Zoning District

The board has been tasked with deciding on a mobile home zoning district, and tabled it Tuesday, but did approve the town’s “Comprehensive Plan” that was recommended by Susmita Som of NODA.

Pardo was turned down for abuildingpermitbythetown’s building inspector September 7, but he later attempted to get the double-wide delivered there, and was stopped by Tillman, and police.

Pardo wrote in his building variance request that he “didn’t know he needed a permit to store” it there while he asked for the review.

Town Trustee Harold Shaw told the Times and Free Press in September that he saw the traffic jam the day Pardo tried to move the double-wide in. I know “Sal,” Shaw said, and he let him keep the mobile home on his property outside the town limits.
