Hennessey school board accepts bid for sports parking lot project

The Hennessey Board of Education unanimously accepted the base bid of $929,859 for the paved football/baseball parking lot project on the east side of Mitchell Road north of Oklahoma Avenue.

Hembree and Hodgson Construction LLC of Ponca City won the bid to add 71 paved parking spaces.

The school’s lighted sports sign will stay in place and the parking will connect north to the town’s paved parking for the community swimming pool and park.

The school’s middle, elementary and early childhood center buildings are across the street to the west.

The architect’s plan calls for completion in August or September “at the latest,” school board members were told last month.

Other base bids and bidders were: C3 Construction, Ada, $1,515,946; Firebrand Construction, Stillwater, $983,500; CP Integrated Services, Oklahoma City, $1,068,688.61; MMS Construction & Paving LLC, Kingfisher, $1,194,508; and Jackson Civil, Enid, $1,400,000.

“We’re only doing the base bid,” Superintendent Jason Sternberger told the Times & Free Press after the meeting.

“The alternate bid would have paved the parking on the west side of the football field and wrapped around to south of the fieldhouse on the southwest corner of the football field.”

The board accepted the bid during a special meeting at noon Monday, March 25, in the conference room at the The Eagle Event Center.

All board members were present: President Luke Lough, Vice President Patrick Griffin, Clerk Dr. James Matthew Matousek, Amy Charmasson, and Dakota Semrad.

Bid documents were prepared by Renaissance Architecture, Oklahoma City.

Renaissance also made the plans for the school’s State Highway 51 transportation building addition.

Firebrand Construction won that bid at $977,000.
