Hennessey town board approves bigger budget for 2022-23 year due to $520K in new grants
The Town of Hennessey’s current expenses for 2021-22 are expected to be almost $3.7 million, but the budget for the 2022-23 fiscal year is $4.7 million.
The reason for the increase is grant money, said Town Administrator Tiffany Tillman.
The town will receive grants of $300,000 and $220,000 in the new fiscal year that starts July 1.
“Good job redoing (cutting) the budget,” Trustee Harold Shaw told Tillman before the board approved the budget in a special meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 15.
Tillman had been tasked to cut the first budget draft by almost 10 percent, but said she was able to cut it by about 8 percent.
As of June 15, the total resources available were $8.1 million, according to the approved budget resolution.
Appropriations by department are: General Fund, $1,348,248; Street & Alley, $19,000; Restricted Sales Tax, $1,153,495; Cemetery Care, $50,000; Library, $10,010; Juvenile Police Fund, $1,000.
Hennessey Utilities Authority Fund: General Government, $101,357; Water, $736,410; Sewer, $627,173; Sanitation, $238,183; Transfers to Other Funds, $50,000 for total in Utilities Authority Fund: $1,753,123.
Present at the meeting were Vice Mayor Clif Vogt and Trustees Richard Simunek, David Jones and Shaw, and Town Clerk Kati Walters. Mayor Bert Gritz was absent.
The board also approved a claim for $18,738.37 to pay Worth Hydrochem for replacement of reverse osmosis equipment at the Hennessey Water Plant.
Vogt said he was happy the meeting lasted only 13 minutes.
