Town of Hennessey utility customers were set for a cost increase in trash costs and decreased twice-a-week pickups this month, but that won’t take effect until next month.

It will be later this month when new polycarts and dumpsters are switched out, Town Administrator Tiffany Tillman told the town board Thursday night.

All residential customers may get additional polycarts at $6 each, and commercial users will pay $20.40 for each added polycart.

August Schedule

Customers who live inside the town limits and currently have trash pick-ups on Mondays and Thursdays will have pickups on Mondays, and those who have pickups on Tuesdays and Fridays will have Tuesday pickups.

All customers outside the town limits will be picked up on Tuesdays. “That includes Ike’s Acres, Miller Heights, Gritz Acres, etc.,” she said.

Monthly Bulk Pickup

Tillman received the once-a-month bulk rate pickup schedule Friday morning from the town’s sanitation provider, Waste Connections:

First Wednesday – Residential customers in town limits west of Main Street.

Second Wednesday – Residential customers who are east of Main St. and North of Oklahoma Avenue.

Third Wednesday – Residential customers who are east of Main Street and south of Oklahoma Avenue and north of Seventh Street.

Fourth Wednesday – All residential customers south of Seventh Street whether located east or west U.S. 81.

Bulk waste include large and small household appliances, furniture, carpet (three-foot length), mattresses, tree limbs (three-foot bundles not more than one-inch in diameter), fencing (three-foot length bundles), etc. Loose materials must be bagged.

No refrigerators will be picked up, and there is also a 50-pound weight limit since the driver will be doing the lifting, a Waste Connections representative said last month.

Rate Changes

Residential customers in-town who have minimum water use (1,000 gallons or less) will notice a $2.01 increase on their August monthly utility bill which is a 4% increase, and out-of-towners a $2.24 month which is a 4.8% increase.

The current minimum in-town residential utility bill is $48.04, and will be $50.05 with the increase, according to the town’s new billing chart. Out-of-town minimum-use residential customers who now pay $45.76 will have a $58 bill.

Commercial water users in town will pay $25 for the first 1,000 gallons as opposed to the current $16.54 rate, and that same cost applies to sewer service. Rural water users will pay $35 for the minimum 1,000 gallons instead of $24.26, and bulk users will pay $32.45 instead of $30.90.

Company representatives have told the board that Hennessey has been its only twice-a-week service community. Their other customers in this area include Dover, Cashion, North Enid, Okeene, Canton, Seiling. They also service The Village, Cherokee and Burlington.

Kingfisher is not serviced by Connections, but offers once-a-week trash service, and Edmond also has once-a-week pickups.
