Everything is ready for Hennessey’s first Farmers’ Market in a long time, said Stacy Cline, president of the Hennessey United Association.

Her family’s Wellness Mercantile business will co-sponsor the event this Saturday (July 31) from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.

It will be held on W. Oklahoma Avenue at Main Street (west of the stoplight).

Everything from honey to produce to Made in Oklahoma products qualify for the market, she told the town board earlier this month, and if anyone has questions they may call her (405-853-5454).

Cline said she appreciated the town board’s approval to close down a half-block on Oklahoma Avenue for the last Saturday of the month event that will also be held Aug. 28 and Sept. 25.

At the meeting

In addition to Cline, other board members at United’s July 15 meeting were Vice President Teresa Oliver, Treasurer Tammy Lott-Hopkins, Secretary Cathy Howard, Kaden Mitchell and Wes Hardin (who was elected as an at-large board member that night after serving as a town board liaison for many years).

Board member Dagan Hardin also attended part of the meeting. Absent were Mayor Bert Gritz, Scott Hajek, Marianna

Gonzalez and Barb Walter.

Oct. 16 Wine & Chocolate Festival

Plans are going forward with United’s 10th Wine & Chocolate Festival scheduled Saturday, Oct. 16, at Hennessey’s Memorial Park on Main Street, said Wes Hardin, chairman of the festival since it started in 2011.

Last year would have been the 10th annual festival, but was canceled due to COVID.

This year’s admission will stay at $20 per person and Hardin said he’d order 250 advance tickets.

Teresa Oliver reported that she’d already contacted chocolatiers about participation.

There was discussion about the Oklahoma Grape Industry Council’s continued participation in the festival.

Red Carpet Night next year

The board decided to wait until next spring to hold Red Carpet Night to recognize volunteers in the community because many organizations didn’t meet this past year due to COVID.

Howard said this year would have been the 11th annual Red Carpet Night.

Zombie Walk

Dagan Hardin had expressed interest in previous meetings to have a Zombie Walk for Halloween. That discussion was tabled until the Aug. 19 meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Wellness Mercantile.
