HHS Leadership Class Taken to Court
Twenty-two Hennessey High School seniors made a trip to the Kingfisher County Courthouse Wednesday, Oct. 12, as part of the Leadership Hennessey program. The once-aweek sessions are during a civics class and conducted by Hennessey United Association in cooperation with the school. They’re in partnership this year with Enel Green Power Energy and other student supporters. Judge Schneiter presided over a mock trial and provided scripts to student actors who portrayed attorneys for the prosecution and defense, the accused, two witnesses (including a deputy sheriff) who witnessed the offense. The jury of six students found the defendant guilty as charged of driving under the infl uence. Students also had other lessons in county government when they heard from Dist. 2 County Commissioner Ray Alan Shimanek, Court Clerk Lisa Markus and Sheriff Dennis Banther.
