Hennessey’s high school speech and debate team brought home 10 Class 3A state finalist titles and two quarterfinalist wins this year.

The 2022 tournament was held April 8-9 in Norman on the University of Oklahoma campus.

State 3A finalists

Original Oratory, Ashland Crites; Standard Oratory, Taylor Ladwig; Foreign Extemporaneous Speaking, Crites; Domestic Extemporaneous Speaking, Jaden Matthews, Milisa Heskett, and Ladwig; Monologue, Laura Ullery; Poetry, Jaden Matthews;

Prose, Jaret Matthews; Humorous Duet, Jaden Matthews and Heskett.

State quarterfinalists

Cross-examination Debate, Crites and Heskett, and Ladwig and Jayden Hladik.

Coach is proud

Teacher Nathaniel Parker is coach of the team and said he’s proud of the team and will miss his seniors who graduate this year.

They are Ashland Crites, Mel Heskett and Jaden Matthews.

Jennifer Ullery, a regular team supporter, also served as its driver to the state meet.

Ish Engle also supported the team and helped Parker, as did Oklahoma State University student Dakota Davis, who was the team’s assistant coach at state.

Davis is a 2019 HHS honors graduate, state debate winner and was also named the top speech/debate student that year.
