Hladik named acting city manager
Kingfisher clerk to fill role from mid-February until full-time successor hired
Kingfisher City Clerk Brittney Hladik will become the acting city manager next month.
City commissioners made that move Monday night near the end of a two-hour special meeting.
Commissioner Kyle Mecklenburg made the motion to appoint Hladik to the role effective Feb. 15.
It was seconded by Vice Mayor Wendell Prim and approved with unanimous votes from Mayor Roxie Alexander and Geoff Covalt.
Commissioners met in executive session for just under two hours and Hladik joined them for all but the first 40 minutes.
Also a part of the majority of the executive session was current City Manager Dave Slezickey, who two weeks ago tendered his resignation to accept the same position at The Village in Oklahoma City.
His resignation was accepted during a special meeting held last Monday.
Slezickey’s contract requires him to give 90 days’ notice, but accrued sick time and leave could see him take over his new role prior to the April 10 “separation date.”
“This will allow us to start transitioning those duties to her,” Slezickey said. “I’m still going to be around and will do what’s required, but I’m also not going to be in her way.
“Brittney is more than capable and I expect this to be a smooth transition.”
Hladik, a former employee of the Department of Human Services, has been with the city for more than six years.
“She’s more than capable,” Slezickey said. “We’ll keep pushing; keep moving forward.”
Hladik will serve as acting manager until the commissioners hire someone for the position full-time.
Joining commissioners in the executive session for 45 minutes was Steve Whitlock, executive director of Oklahoma Municipal Management Services.
Monday’s agenda contained an item that called for hiring OMMS “for professional services of executive search for a city manager.”
Commissioners took no action on the item, but are expected to at their next meeting.
“We’re waiting on some final documents from OMMS,” City Attorney Jared Harrison said.
The commission’s next regular meeting is scheduled Feb. 13.
