The holiday season has arrived

The corner of Main and Broadway was lit up last Friday night, whether it be the sounds of the Kingfi sher High School choir, the bright, shining lights of the Chamber of Commerce Christmas tree or the overall spirit of Christmas.

The holiday season officially kicked into gear downtown with a plethora of events, activities, food and overall fun as part of the third annual Christmas on Main.

The highlight took place just before 6:30 p.m. when reigning Kingfisher County Distinguished Young Woman Kamryn Purintun flipped the ceremonial switch on the downtown Christmas tree, which sits just outside of the Chamber of Commerce offices.

The lighting was greeted with “snow” from the rooftops and was also preceded by several selections from the choir members.

In addition to some traditional Christmas songs, the choir also sang some of the songs that will be a part of their upcoming production of “Elf the Musical Jr.”

( Note: See the next edition of the Times & Free Press for more information on that production.) Before, during and after the tree lighting, Block 35 was full of things to do from face painting to vendors to food and even a fire pit to help keep warm.

There was also an appearance by Santa and Mrs. Claus, who were available for photos. They made the trip along with one of their reindeer, which was also on display.

Downtown merchants also stayed open late as part of the chamber’s “Pink Friday” shopping experience.

It was the first of three straight weekends of events taking place in Kingfisher to kick the season into full gear.

Kingfisher Winter Nights opens with a ceremony this Saturday. ( Note: See story on Page 1).

The annual Christmas parade as well as the fireworks and laser show will be Saturday, Dec. 7.
