The Kingfisher County OSU Extension Office is seeking individuals and businesses to volunteer for its third annual “Reality Check” event for county high school seniors. Reality Check is scheduled from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Nov. 16, at the county fairgrounds.

Each county school’s senior class will rotate through the experience in two-hour blocks. Reality Check is designed to provide a real- world glimpse into the consequences of financial decisions students make once they graduate high school or college.

Each student is treated as a 25-year-old adult and assigned a career based on a pre-survey.

Each student is also given one of four random household profiles – a single person, a single parent, married without children or married with children. They start their twohour tour at the “bank” where each student is given a “paycheck” based on their career which they then spend at the remaining booths for housing and auto, insurance, groceries, child- at the banking booth, real estate agents and car dealers at the home and auto booth, etc.,” Lindy Peterman, OSU Extension educator and program care, utilities and other typical monthly expenses.

At the end of the rotation, students “check out” to determine what’s left of their finances and are given candy bars that reflect the financial soundness of their decisions – Payday, Mounds or Zero.

“To make the whole experience as realistic as possible, we like to have actual business people who work in the areas represented by each booth – bank employees
