Hennessey school board members discussed the purchase of an undisclosed property in a 15-minute executive session during their Monday night meeting.

The agenda item for the closed session gave Superintendent Jason Sternberger the authority to execute a contract for the purchase “subject to formal board approval and approval of the school district’s attorney.”

The open meeting law gives the board the authority to hold a meeting for such a purchase and to keep the site secret.

All board members were present at the meeting: President Dr. James Matthew Matousek, Vice President Luke Lough, Clerk Patrick Griffin, Cristopher Choate and David Tillman.

Coach hirings

There was not an executive session dealing with personnel, but the superintendent recommended hiring these coaches and their assignments: Courtney Markes, head high school girls basketball; Evan Kating, assistant junior high baseball, and David Redus, assistant high school football.

The vote was 4-1 to hire the three coaches. Tillman cast the no vote.

Markes has taught at the elementary school since 2017 and last year taught third grade.

Her announcement as the basketball coach, pending approval by the board, was posted on the school’s web site last month.

Kating is new to Hennessey this year and will also teach fifth and sixth grade reading.

Redus will teach high school history this year and taught seventh grade geography and also coached football last year.

Other hirings

New hires approved unanimously were: Kacie LaPorte, counselor assistant; Perla Blanco, elementary paraprofessional; Vivianca Marques, Morgan Wymore and Daniel Rios as aides at the Early Childhood Center (pre-k and kindergarten), and McKenzie Tucker, custodian.

Resignations

The superintendent said in his report he’d accepted resignations from ECC aides Stacy Sturgill and Jessica McNeely.

In the audience

Staff in the audience were all four principals: HS, Josh Faulkner; MS, Ricardo Tarango; ES, Barry Crosswhite, and ECC, Stacey Mack. Also Todd Cameron, technology director; Rae Fuksa, technology specialist, and Allison Hurst, MS special education teacher.

Also in the audience was Chandra Seiger.
