HPS rehires 128 teachers, support staff

Hennessey Board of Education members rehired 78 teachers and 50 support personnel for the 2024-25 school year.

They took that action after about 40 minutes in executive session Monday, March 11, to discuss personnel during their noon meeting.

Resignations

Superintendent Jason Sternberger reported these five resignations: Christy Streck (retiring), fourth grade teacher; Haley Fisher, family and consumer science teacher; Paul Raupe, high school science teacher; Bert Gritz, high school science teacher; and Maria Fierro, cafeteria cook.

Spring Coaching Changes

Sternberger recommended - and the board approved - these coaching duties by adding: Ricardo Tarango, head middle school baseball coach, $1,500; Tyler Baxter, assistant high school track, $1,500; Jacob Bullis, boys golf, $1,250, and Nathan Hill, assistant middle school baseball, $1,000.

These duties were deleted: Brian Richardson, boys golf, $1,200, and Nathan Hill, head middle school baseball (no amount listed).

The day care center is up and running after repairs, he said, and said they appreciated the Baptist church allowing them to use their facilities.

He also reminded board members they’d have a special meeting at noon Tuesday, March 12, for the bid opening on $1.25 million in taxable building bonds.

The April 8 regular meeting will also be held at noon instead of the usual 7 p.m., he said.

At the Meeting

The board table was full this month with the addition of Dakota Semrad.

He was appointed at last month’s meeting, but was not present. Semrad replaces David Tillman who resigned from the board in January.

All other board members were also present: President Luke Lough, Vice President Patrick Griffin, Clerk Dr. James M. Matousek and Amy Charmasson.

Also at the board table were Sternberger and Office Manager and Minutes Clerk Timberly Jech. The only other staffer at the meeting was HHS Principal Josh Faulkner.

Visitors at the meeting were Amber Koehn, Ashley Zielny and Doyle Miller, who is running against Charmasson for her open board seat.

This month’s meeting lasted 49 minutes.
