It’s the Most Wonderful Night of the Year!
The 2021 Kingfisher Christmas parade and downtown fireworks event was two years in the making after last year’s pandemic lockdown.
And for the thousands who lined the sidewalks and then spilled into the highway for the fireworks show, the night did not disappoint.
The parade may have been one of the city’s largest, limited to 50 entries, including 18 large floats, a mass Kingfisher County marching band and a number of other lighted wheeled vehicles and pedestrians.
“The Chamber is pleased with the entire event. There’s a magnitude of people behind the scenes to help pull this off and we are thankful to them all,” Executive Director Shauna Rupp said.
Kingfisher Police Chief David Catron, who helped coordinate the safety side of the event, also expressed appreciation to all the other entities that helped with traffic and crowd control.
“I think it went great with very few small hiccups, which we are already working on for the 2022 parade,” Catron said.
“Along with the chamber, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office, the fire department and street and electric departments and volunteers from Chisholm Trail Technology Center really helped make it all come together.”
The amount of effort that goes into planning the event is hidden by its seamlessness, City Manager Dave Slezickey said.
“We’re very appreciative for all the volunteers that make this event such a success,” he said. “Great planning year round from the chamber and all involved makes it look easy, but there are hundreds of people who make it possible.”
