It’s OK when Dem guv ships out illegal aliens

VIEW From Behind The Plow (a Column Of Opinion By Gary Reid, Publisher Emeritus)

The Left has been lampooning Republican governors who send illegal immigrants in their states to those states in favor of them.

The Republicans are depicted as inhumane and haters, although they had absolutely nothing to do with creating the crisis.

Possibly you haven’t heard that Colorado’s Democrat governor has been doing the same thing.

President Joe Biden briefly toured a small segment of the southern border Sunday and talked about why the illegal immigration crisis there is not really a crisis, and if it is then it isn’t his fault.

However the Democrat governor who has been shipping out the law-breakers, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, announced last week, he would stop busing illegal immigrants to New York City and Chicago.

Jarrett Stepman, columnist for The Daily Signal, publication of the conservative think tank,The Heritage Foundation, says you can be forgiven if you didn’t know that Polis was busing these illegal immigrants north. It’s not like it got waves of hysterical media coverage.

Polis stopped his busing policy, it seems, because New York Mayor Eric Adams and Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot made a huge stink about it. Still, it’s noteworthy that a Democrat governor even would try to bus migrants out of his state as Republican governors have recently.

This whole situation brings up two issues. First, the obvious media hypocrisy. It’s no secret that most corporate, “mainstream” media outlets are biased against Republicans and conservatives. It’s still noteworthy how so many journalists and commentators flew into a tizzy when they caught wind of Republican governors’ transporting illegal immigrants to other states.

According to celebrated documentarian Ken Burns (“The Civil War,” “Baseball,” “Jazz”), this was basically a foreshadowing of the United States turning into the Third Reich.

“This is coming straight out of the authoritarian playbook,” Burns said on CNN after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, sent roughly 50 illegal immigrants by plane to Martha’s Vineyard, a posh Massachusetts vacation spot known for its left-wing politics.

“What we find in our all films is that the themes that we engage in the past are present today,” Burns said. “And so, when you look at the story that we’re telling of the U.S. and the Holocaust, you understand that the time to save a democracy is before it’s lost. We promise you.”

The idea that overwhelmed border states–abandoned by a presidential administration that largely refuses to enforce immigration law–would offload some of the problem on northern, blue, sanctuary cities as an act of defiance and desperation was treated, with the media’s help, as an example of how evil and heartless Republicans are.

Polis tried to spin the situation to make it seem like what Polis was doing was markedly different from the actions of Republican governors.

“No one should play politics with the lives of migrants who came here to escape oppression, and in Colorado, we are honoring our values of treating people with dignity and respect,” Polis said in a prepared statement.

This, of course, cleared him of all wrongdoing, at least in the eyes of the “woke.”

Nevertheless, Polis’ actions illuminate that there is a crisis at the border, something the left continues to downplay as it seeks to bring in an electorate that will give it permanent power.

If you don’t think this affects you, remember that your taxes are paying for illegals being put up in hotels, clothed and fed.

The Denver Post reported at the end of December that housing costs for illegal immigrants in Denver had reached $3 million.

The Biden administration impedes efforts to correct the problems.

Stepman adds: “So don’t get your hopes up after Biden’s border visit. “The president’s highly sanitized photo-op offered no solutions that actually would get the border problem under control. Instead, it’s the typical, cynical nonsense and empty platitudes we’ve been fed since Biden arrived in the Oval Office.”

Is it not strange that the huge Omnibus spending bill enacted just prior to Democrats lost control of the House included multi-millions for securing borders of other nations but little to nothing to solve the nightmare at our own border.

••• The Heritage Foundation gives good marks to Oklahoma for improving the integrity of its elections.

It lists these states as moving in the right direction on elections in 2022: Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin.

Missouri and Oklahoma made the largest improvements in 2022 with each improving by eight points, bringing their point totals to 80 and 72, respectively.

Missouri did so by enacting a law that requires a photo ID for in-person voting, restricts the use of private funding by political and other donors for the conduct of elections, and prevents the state’s executive branch from reaching collusive settlements in lawsuits that would result in unauthorized changes to state election laws.

Oklahoma similarly restricted the use of private funds to administer elections, thereby limiting the influence wealthy donors can exert in any given contest.
