KHS choir delivers ‘superior’

Kingfisher High School choir members brought home a number of “superior” ratings last Friday from the OSSAA state solo/ensemble competition at Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee.

Superior is the highest ranking a performer can be awarded. It’s followed by “excellent” (above average), “good” (average), “fair” (below average) and “poor.”

Kingfisher’s women’s ensemble, women’s duet, mixed ensemble and a cappella ensemble all earned superiors.

The women’s duet was Zaylynn Lopez and Stormie Shockey.

The women’s ensemble consisted of Olivia Reyes, Shelbey Osterholt, Emily Warren, Bianca Garcia, Cherith Stephenson, Avery Stutts, Katie Beecher, Janeth Navarro, Mylene Jones, Lopez, Shockey and Natalie Ellis.

The mixed ensemble included Cale Leck, Caleb Hendryx, Navarro, Stephenson, Jayden Shaver, Reyes, Ryker Long, Ethan Willimon, Warren, Jones and Serenity Starr.

Reyes, Wayde Barrios, Leck, Hendryx, Willimon, Raechel Evans, Bianca Garcia, Osterholt, Beecher, Jones, Starr and Shockey comprised the a cappella ensemble.

On top of those, Shockey, Evans and Willimon earned superiors for their solo performances.

Stephenson and Garcia earned excellent ratings for their solos as did the women’s trio of Beecher, Garcia and Stephenson.

To qualify for state, soloists and ensembles had to earn superior ratings at the district competition held earlier this spring.

The students are taught by Diann Magnus, Kingfisher’s choral director.
