Kingfisher city manager named ICMA regional VP

Kingfisher City Manager Dave Slezickey was elected one of six new regional vice presidents of the International City-County Management Association.

Slezickey will be formally inducted to begin his threeyear term on the 21-member executive board at the organization’s 108th annual conference in Columbus, Ohio, in late September.

The executive board acts in the capacity of directors for ICMA, overseeing the organization’s financial, member-related and programing affairs.

The executive board also selects the organization’s president and enforces the code of ethics, which governs the professional and personal conduct of the membership.

As the vice president for the mountain plains region, Slezickey will be expected to attend four meetings a year.

ICMA is based in Washington, D.C., and represents professionals in local government management.

The organization consists of more than 12,000 members worldwide.

Slezickey has served as Kingfisher’s city manager since May 2012 and was recently rehired for his 11th year.

He’s a member of the City Management Association of Oklahoma, where he’s served as a district representative, secretary, treasurer and president.

“I was encouraged by peers in the region to consider applying for a nomination at last year’s ICMA annual convention, with several suggesting that ICMA is missing a significant population of small community local government professionals who are not aware of the benefits and professional development provided by the association,” he said. “There also was a concern that the dues need to be restructured to serve these professionals without being a cost burden to their communities.

“I look forward to helping other professionals by serving in this position while representing the midwest and many small communities like Kingfisher.

“I also look forward to the experiences I will gain over the next three years with the anticipation that it will make me a better city manager and enhance my abilities to better serve our community.”

Slezickey also has served in the Oklahoma Army National Guard for nearly 26 years and currently holds the rank of command sergeant major, the most senior noncommissioned officer.

He and his wife Melissa, a Kingfisher Junior High counselor, have two children, Cash and Mattie.
