Kingfisher man dies from injuries suffered in utility vehicle accident
A Kingfisher man died Tuesday night from injuries suffered when crashing a utility vehicle.
John E. Mercer, 52, was pronounced dead at the scene by Kingfisher EMS personnel, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The report said Mercer was driving a 2021 Polaris RZR westbound “at a high rate of speed” on County Road 790, just northeast of Kingfisher, at about 10:40 p.m.
Mercer failed to negotiate the curve at CR 2855 and the vehicle departed the roadway and rolled one-quarter time, the report said.
Mercer was partially ejected and pinned beneath the vehicle, it read.
After local personnel arrived on the scene, Mercer was transported to the Medical Examiner’s Offi ce.
Laun Post, 43, Oklahoma City, was a passenger in the RZR.
He was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital Kingfisher and then flown by medical helicopter to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
However, according to the report, Post “was determined to not be injured.”
The report said neither Mercer nor Post were wearing seatbelts or helmets.
The accident was investigated by Trooper Seth Wallace of the Kingfi sher County Detachment of Troop J. Trooper Mark Williams, Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Office, Kingfisher Police Department, Kingfisher Fire Department and Kingfisher EMS also assisted at the scene.
