KPD adds new officer

Officer Steven Renbarger

Kingfisher Police Department’s newest officer is fulfilling aspirations.

Steven Renbarger started on the force on Monday.

A native of Calumet, Renbarger has known what he’s wanted to do for a long time.

“I’ve always wanted to be a police officer,” he said.

He just had to wait. Renbarger graduated from Calumet in 2020.

State law sets a minimum age of 21 to be a police officer.

To fill the gap between graduating and reaching that age requirement, Renbarger said he took some courses at OSU-OKC and also helped on the family farm.

While at Calumet, he was active in school especially sports.

Renbarger played baseball, basketball and ran both track and cross country for the Chieftains.

Now that he’s “legal,” he’ll be patrolling the streets of Kingfisher.

Chief David Catron said Renbarger will spend the first two-plus weeks riding along with other KPD officers and “learning the town.”

He’ll begin Council on Law Enforcement Education and Training (CLEET) academy Aug. 10 at Canadian Valley Technology Center in El Reno.

That training will last until December.

Once complete, Renbarger will begin a Field Training Officer (FTO) program on the KPD force for 16 weeks.

Renbarger’s addition gives the KPD a full staff once again as there are 13 full-time officers, said Catron.
