A number of new hires and a handful of resignations were accepted last Tuesday by the Kingfisher Board of Education.

The board was holding the final meeting of fiscal year 2020-21.

After a 45-minute executive session, the board capped a two-hour meeting by making 10 new hires, including a new high school assistant principal and curriculum director.

Approved for the combined administrative position was Erin Michael, who has worked in the Edmond, Deer Creek and Oklahoma City school districts.

Also hired were: David Ellis, KHS science teacher; Stacy Themer, alternative education teacher; Isaac Waltman, KMS physical education teacher; Peyton McCormick, Heritage paraprofessional; Jordan Smith, Heritage secretary; Angie Kennedy, Gilmour library teacher assistant; Heather Pringnitz, Gilmour teacher assistant/cashier; Terry Willis, 21st Century Grant director; and Dakota Horn, part-time summer help.

Six resignations received were also given unanimous approval.

They included: Fay Barnett, KMS physical education and coach; Wyatt Carter, KHS U.S. history and A.P. history teacher; Micah Nall, KHS health and special education English teacher and coach; Lauren Waterhouse, pre-k teacher at Gilmour; Shane Soudek, teacher assistant and coach; and Amy Wood, bus driver.

The board also accepted a number of changes to the handbooks for KMS and KHS students, but voted 3-1 to hold off on making changes to the district’s dress code.
