KPS board hires Jech as junior high health teacher

By

Kingfisher’s board of education had one of its more routine meetings in months when it gathered Monday.

Members met for 53 minutes for its regular March meeting, a bulk of which was spent on non-action items.

Once they hit the action portion of the agenda, members approved some routine contracts, dealt with activity sub-accounts and made three personnel moves.

The moves included hiring Doug Jech as health and nutrition adjunct teacher at the new junior high school.

Jech is already employed part-time by the district at the middle school. He’s not cur rently certified as a health/ nutrition teacher, but hiring him as an adjunct will help the district avoid a negative mark with its accreditation, said Superintendent Dr. Daniel Craig.

Also hired were Christina Jones as a paraprofessional at Heritage School and Lindsey Imes as a cashier/teacher assistant at KMS.

Annual contracts were approved with three different firms, which were the same as last year.

One was a license agreement with Employee Evaluation Systems, Inc., for staff evaluations.

The total cost for the agreement is $3,572.

Municipal Accounting Systems’ contract was approved for $16,847. The district uses the firm for its student information.

Also approved was a contract with Quality Choice Testing LLC for drug and alcohol testing of bus drivers and students. Usage fees range from $20 to $75 depending on the amount tested per visit.

Board members approved the student transfer capacity, a move that was necessitated when the state began allowing open transfers.

Districts have to set the maximum amount of trans fers it will accept per grade each quarter, though it can be changed at any time.

Craig told board members the district had not seen a significant amount of transfer requests since the policy was enacted last year.

In other action Monday, board members approved:

• Transferring $785.33 from the Middle School Faculty account to the Junior High School Faculty account; $1,738.55 from the Middle School Student account to the Junior High School Student account; and $9,500 from Gilmour PTO to Heritage PTO;

• Creating a new Middle

School STEM sub-account;

• Sanctioning the new Yellowjacket Football Club Boosters, which is a booster club for the soccer program;

• Declared multiple items as surplus that will be auctioned off. They ranged from water-damaged books to exercise equipment to Amazon Fire tablets.

All board members were present except Jim Perdue. He was attending the premium auction for the Northwest District Livestock Show in Enid, which saw several Kingfisher FFA members, including his son James Perdue, earn a spot in the sale.
