Nearly seven dozen Kingfisher Public Schools certified staff were rehired for the 2024-25 school year.

About three dozen more will have to wait another month to learn their fate.

Kingfisher Board of Education members voted 4-0 Monday night to rehire 83 tenured teachers, or those that have three or more years with the district.

However, the board also voted 4-0 to table rehiring a list of about 36 teachers who are on temporary contracts. With a few exceptions, that list includes those who have been with the district less than three years.

The moves were made about nearly 90 minutes in executive session at the regular April meeting held in the Kingfisher Junior High library.

After the vote to rehire the group of teachers for next school year, board member Brad Wittrock made the motion to table the item regarding those on temporary contracts.

Terry Payne seconded the motion and they were joined by Charles Walker and Dana Golbek in voting to delay approving the list as presented to the board.

Board member Carly Franks was present for the first 30 minutes of the meeting, but had to leave at the beginning of the executive session, therefore didn’t vote on the final few items.

Prior to going into executive session, Superintendent David Glover said the two lists were compiled after extensive talks with the various building principals, who, he said, recommended the names on the lists.

Certified staff rehired for 2024-25 were: Barbara Baker, Tracy Baustert, Stephanie Bieren, Bridget Birdwell, Misty Blundell, Stan Blundell, Rhonda Bromlow, Kara Brueggen, Nicole Buck, Kristina Burnham, Suzanne Crow, Riley Dacus, Micah Daugherty, Davin DeVilbiss, Katelyn Dissinger, Tammy Duncan, Aniessa Edsall, David Ellis, Janie Erwin, Stephanie Farrell, Morgan Finley, Lili Giles, Tyler Gradert, Jarren Graham, Teresa Greco, Laurie Hagar, Stephanie Harper, Becky Hart, Whitney Hauser, Micah Hensley, Makylah Henton and Janet Hood.

Two names not on that list were Melanie Green and Jackie Sternberger.

Their resignations were announced during the meeting.

Sternberger, a history teacher at the high school and the 2023-24 district teacher of the year, has accepted a position at Durant Public Schools.

Third grade teacher Morgan Fialkowski also tendered her resignation as did paraprofessionals Chloe Meacham, Kori Mink and Barbara Hoselton.
