KWGA honors longtime member Regina Grabow
Dozens of women flooded the Kingfisher Golf Course recently for the Kingfisher Women’s Golf Association’s annual tournament.
The two-woman scramble saw 44 teams participate on May 24.
This year was a bit different, however, in that Regina Grabow didn’t take part in some way.
The tournament’s longtime organizer had already turned over the reins of running the tournament to the likes of Trish Ludwig and Brenda Keene.
“As you know last year, she said she thought it was going to be her last year to organize,” Ludwig told the crowd of golfers before they teed off.
“I thought, ‘It will be alright because I can ask her anything I need to know.’” Grabow passed away in January.
On top of losing a friend, the KWGA also lost a lot of valuable information in putting together its biggest event of the year.
Or so they thought. When going through some of her belongings, Grabow’s son - Bud Grabow - ran across a flash drive.
“Everything I needed to know was on here going all the way back to 2014,” Ludwig said, “It helped so much to get everything done. Regina did it for many, many years. She is very, very missed.”
The KWGA maintains a flowerbed that sits alongside the women’s and senior tee box on the 15th hole.
As a way to honor Grabow, the KWGA has adorned the area with a plaque and special flowerpot in her honor.
The plaque reads: “In loving memory of Regina Grabow - - KWGA Members 2023” Bud was on hand prior to the golf tournament to see the memorial.
“It was very stressful. She was always concerned about the weather and she watched the Weather Channel non-stop in fear of it raining,” Bud said of his mother’s preparation for the tournament.
“But it always worked out. I appreciate the recognition you’re bestowing upon her.”
