Sophie Vandendriessche emerged to help the Okarche girls remain unbeaten.

After scoring four points in the Lady Warriors’ season-opening win against Preston, the senior poured in 17 Tuesday night in a 60-43 home win against Calumet.

She scored 11 of those points in the second half as Okarche pulled away.

Emma Stover scored six in the first quarter as Okarche took control with a 16-7 lead.

However, Calumet was able to pull within 26-20 at halftime.

Vandendriessche and Jalie Rother both knocked down third-quarter 3-pointers as the lead grew to eight.

Adyson Arms came alive in the fourth to score eight points and the rest of the team went 7 of 10 from the foul line to put Calumet away.

Arms ended her night with 11 points.

Rother scored 12.

Stover finished her night with eight points, all in the first half.

Ryen Wittrock and Jadyn Rother were a combined 5 of 7 from the three throw line in the fourth. They scored six points apiece.

Chieftains avoid sweep with win

Three Okarche players scored in double figures, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Calumet’s “big two.”

The Chieftains grabbed a 69-63 road win last Tuesday behind a combined 51 points from Hunter Arnold and Matthew Snyder.

They overcame a 32-30 halftime deficit by shooting 70 percent from the field in the second half while Okarche battled foul trouble.

Three starters spent valuable minutes on the bench in the fourth quarter as Calumet was able to maintain its lead.

Calumet made 23 of 37 free throw attempts. Okarche was just 8 of 21 from the foul line.

“That (foul trouble) hurt our chances, but we also have to be better on defense,” coach Aaron West said after his team dropped to 0-2.

P.K. Harris scored 14 points for Okarche, which got out to a 16-13 lead.

Harris, though, ultimately fouled out, as did Caden Schieber, who led the team with nine rebounds to go with his six points.

The Warriors got 11 points and eight boards from Brayden Stover.

Trenton Neiderer added 10 points.

Okarche was able to hold the Chieftains to 36 percent shooting (8 of 22) in the first half.

However, Calumet went 14 of 20 in the second half.

Okarche shot 38.5 percent overall and was just 5 of 27 from 3-point range.
