Showers put a temporary halt to wheat harvest Monday across Kingfisher County.

Rainfall amounts from Monday morning showers ranged from .1 inch at an unofficial gauge east of Kingfisher to .8 inch at the Wheeler Brothers Elevator at Omega.

Local Weather Observer Steve Loftis reported .35 inch at the National Weather Service station in Kingfisher. The Mesonet station at the Mueggenborg Farm west of Kingfisher recorded .3 inch.

CHS Elevator at Hennessey recorded .4 inch as did the Cashion Grain and Feed gauge.

Mike and Donna Reid, southwest of Kingfisher received .3 inch while Twila Adams, east of Kingfisher, reported .2 inch including a small bug.

The rain Monday plus a heavy dew on Tuesday delayed harvesting operations at least until Tuesday afternoon and that would require sunshine and breezes to dry out the crop.

Jason Kroener, general manager for CHS Elevators in western Oklahoma, estimated the harvest at 97% complete at Okarche on Tuesday.

Randall Varnell, manager of the Kingfisher Wheeler Brothers Grain Co. estimated the local harvest at 80% complete.

Kroener said the rain gauge at the Okarche CHS Elevator registered .3 inch but his gauge south of Okarche showed one-half inch. Hennessey rainfall ranged from

Okarche Grain and Feed reported a customer was weighing a load on its scales Tuesday morning, obviously from earlier harvesting operations.

Varnell reported .35 inch of rain at Wheeler Brothers’ Reeding location and .8 inch at the Omega elevator.

The harvest was expected to resume countywide late Tuesday, observers reported.
