Last snow? Friday storm dusts area
Light snow fell across Kingfisher County Thursday night and continued during the early hours of Friday.
Locally less than an inch of snow was reported as of mid-morning Friday.
Local Weather Observer Steve Loftis reported a trace of moisture.
Light northerly breezes made the temperature seem colder than the overnight reading of 22 degrees.
The National Weather Service predicted a low around 14 degrees Friday night with winds 5 to 10 miles per hour.
Warmer temperatures were forecasted beginning Sunday when a high of 60 degrees is expected and continuing through the week with a high in the upper 70s expected on Wednesday.
The Mesonet station on the Mueggenborg farm just west of Kingfisher showed no measurable precipitation early Friday, possibly impacted by the frozen precipitation.
Local roads and streets were mostly clear Friday, although there was a chance of slick spots, particularly on bridges as below freezing temperatures continued until nearly noon.
Roads in other parts of the state were reported to be slick and hazardous.
Motorists were advised to continue to use extra caution and expect black ice and refreezing toward the evening hours Friday.
The state transportation department reminds motorists to be patient, plan trips ahead and allow extra time in reaching destinations.
