Condition of the parks concern

By
Jimmie Koehn

I had the pleasure of being able to participate in our Fourth of July parade downtown. I watched as the Chamber of Commerce members worked to line all the entries up and get them started at the right time.

I felt very humbled as a I drove down Main Street looking at all the people that were watching the parade and knowing that most of those people would enjoy a host of activities that were set up for them to enjoy.

I thought, this is the Kingfisher way.

After the parade, I drove down Robberts Street and looked at the new Kingfisher Festival Grounds (Newfield Community Park) that so many individuals and organizations have put countless hours into to bring to Kingfisher so everyone can enjoy.

The problem was I was not proud of how the festival grounds looked.

They had not been mowed or trimmed up to present a good impression.

The pond area has tall weeds growing around it.

Then I drove by Shaw Park, which is close to my home. It also needed mowing and trimming.

I noticed there is a pavilion cover missing. There are a lot of families with small children that go there on a daily basis to play in the splash pad and on the playground equipment.

There are a lot of safety and health reasons to keep these parks clean and looking nice.

Surely there is a solution that can be found to remedy this situation and make all of our parks beautiful.

Sincerely,
