Light snowfall provides area no moisture relief

By

Light snow – about one-quarter inch – floated down on Kingfisher County Wednesday afternoon.

The snow, lighter than projected, is not expected to have a noticeable effect on the county’s thirsty small grain fields which have had negligible moisture for the last two months.

State weather reports indicated heavier – but not much – snow in the western regions of the state.

Kingfisher’s Mesonet station on the Mueggenborg farm west of Kingfisher recorded .03 inch of moisture. Local Weather Observer Steve Loftis did not record any moisture from the snow.

The snowfall began shortly before 5 p.m. and lasted only about an hour.

The sun popped out early Thursday morning and the white stuff vanished quickly.

Sunny days and warmer temperatures were forecasted for Kingfisher at least until Wednesday when the forecast called for possible morning snow showers with some mixed winter precipitation possible along with a high of 34 degrees and north-northeast winds of 15 to 25 miles per hour.
