In line with lesson, Altar Society offers 2 different water donations
The Oct. 9 meeting of the Sts. Peter & Paul Altar Society was held at 7 p.m. with 26 members present.
After minutes of the previous meeting were read and financial reports were given, the group moved on to current business.
Sixty large turkeys have been received and distributed to the bakers in ready for the annual turkey dinner which will be held on Nov. 3.
Turkeys are to be baked and returned for cut-up date on Oct. 19.
A funeral dinner update was given by Cynthia Eaton who reported two recent dinners had been hosted.
Correspondence was read from the families.
Cindy Gruntmeir gave a report on the progress of setting up Ross Hall for pickleball players.
The group voted to purchase two sets of nets, balls and paddles.
It is hoped that the courts will be ready by mid-November.
Gruntmeir reported good interest in volunteers willing to assist with the project.
Chaplain Francene Eaton gave the lesson on the second Corporal Work of Mercy, “giving drink to the thirsty.”
She emphasized the importance of water as it is essential to life and is seen as a sign of the grace of God.
Water is also used in religious rites like baptism.
The City of Kingfisher reported there are individuals who struggle to pay their water bill.
The group voted to donate $500 to the city to be applied to deliquent accounts.
Eaton also stated that the Kingfisher County Emergency Management provides bottled water to all firemen and EMS responders in Kingfisher County.
The group voted to donate $500 to the Emergency Management for the purchase of pallets of water.
In closing the lesson, members were reminded they could donate $30 monthly to the Kingfisher Public Schools Child Nutrition Fund in order to pay for a child’s school meals for a month.
The group will also develop a list of homebound or ill persons who could benefit from some extra meals, so that meals can be made and delivered by the members.
The November meeting will focus on “Sheltering the Homeless.”
