LIONS GET THEIR FIBER
FIBER FOR DUMMIES could have been the title of Donnie Miller’s presentation to Kingfisher Lions Club last Thursday. The divisional manager of marketing and broadband for Pioneer Telephone Cooperative, Miller, center, explained the difference between traditional copper cables used for decades to transmit voice calls and later data, and fiber currently being built out to Pioneer customers. Introduced by Cindy Harris, right, Miller said that although each fiber strand is barely larger than a human hair, the outer limit of its capacity for speed and volume is many decades from being reached. “You don’t typically say this about any technology, but I can’t see past fiber to what could possibly come next – it’s that fast.” With him is club member Francis Nault, left, who arranged the program.
