List of prospective Hennessey Town Board members grows

By

These four citizens have applied for a seat on the Hennessey Town Trustee & Utility boards:

• Frank Patton, Iron Eagle Resources office manager; • Regina Wanzer, Summers Health Services social director;

• Tim Riddle, Community State Bank branch manager-vice president; and

• Logan Tillman, Croell Inc. plant manager.

Town Attorney Jared Harrison suggested a nominating form for applicants, Town Administrator Tiffany Tillman said at the board’s July 9 meeting.

Those forms are available on the Town of Hennessey’s site.

The board had a 60day timeline from Mayor Clifford Vogt’s June 30 resignation to make an appointment.

After that, the board could call for a special election or wait until the scheduled election in April.

After Vogt announced his resignation, the board opted for selecting his replacement.

That’s instead of calling an election “because we’ve always done it that way,” Trustee Bert Gritz told the Times & Free Press reporter. It turns out that the Hennessey Public Library’s Hennessey Clipper research site bears that out.

In addition to Gritz, other board trustees at the meeting were Vice Mayor Harold Shaw, David Jones and Randy Bohnstedt.

In addition to the four trustees, other elected offi cials at the meeting were Town Clerk Kelley Vaverka and Town Treasurer Shelley Burch.

No Mayor Elected?

The Times & Free Press reporter asked why the board agenda for the start of the new year didn’t call for the election of the mayor or the vice mayor.

Shaw, the vice mayor and acting mayor, said it was because they want all five members to make that decision.

Director of Public Works Position Tabled

Board members agreed to table discussion/action “to approve a job description” and “to establish a director of public works position under the direction of Town Administrator Tiffany Tillman.”

They also tabled a job description for that new position.

September Meeting Date Change

Jones noted a conflict in the board’s Sept.10 meeting date. He said the annual Oklahoma Municipal League conference is in Tulsa Sept. 10-12 and that would require members to drive back to Hennessey that Tuesday night.

Monday night, Sept. 9, was suggested and Tillman said that is school board meeting night.

From the audience, it was suggested they meet the preceding Friday night.

“I’m not coming to a Friday night meeting,” said Burch.

The board voted to meet at 6 p.m. Sept. 9. The school board meets at 7 p.m. that
