Local 4-H’ers place at state sporting clay competition
The 4-H state sporting clays competition was held Sunday, Nov. 6, at the Silverleaf Shotgun Sports in Guthrie.
There were 256 4-H members from 21 counties across the state who competed.
Among them were 43 4-H members who represented Kingfisher County.
From those 43, Jameson Ladwig placed eighth individually, Addison Hurtsberger was 10th and Beau Whittenberg was 12th in the Junior Division. All three are from Hennessey.
Also participating from Kingfisher County were: Tyson Evans, Will Finley, Josh Finley, Merrin Evans and Reid Witt, all of Kingfi sher; Hagen Swanson of Dover; Kaden Kennedy, Tryson Sturgill, Kaleb Peach, Trent Choate, Mason McGee and Brok Cooper, all of Hennessey.
Also, Carson Wright, Wagner Endres, Will Kroener, Brady Alig, Holden Schieber, Gabe Vogt, Grady Rother, Henry McIlvain, Sam Henderson, Colton Wright, Tyler Marinelli, Hayden Wittrock, Grady Krittenbrink, Tenley Ludwig, Carly Rother, Colin Stover, Conagher Taylor, Grant Krittenbrink, Hayden Robassistance inson, Parker Schieber, Jake Henrichs, Ryan Mayo, Hudson Mueggenborg, Sam Kroener, Tate Bias, Bella Hufnagel, Holland Carnott, Cooper Anderson and Jake Rother, all of Okarche Shooting sports continues to be one of the fastest growing projects available to 4-H members in Oklahoma and across the nation.
What began in 1982 with just shotgun (trap) shooting now includes training and competition in air rifle, air pistol, black powder, archery, small bore rifle, small bore pistol and living history.
To become involved in the Oklahoma 4-H Shooting Sports/Archery program, youth must meet 4-H enrollment requirements.
Any boy or girl residing in or attending school in Oklahoma may enroll in Oklahoma 4-H after he or she has reached age 9 and have completed their Hunters Safety Course.
To participate in 4-H Shooting Sports-trap shoot, 4-H members must meet the above requirements plus be 10 years old, must be certified through the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Hunter Safety Program and receive a minimum of eight hours of instruction by a certified 4-H shooting sports instructor.
Like other 4-H projects, shooting sports depends on willing adults to work with the youth.
Oklahoma 4-H Shooting Sports requires adults to be 21 years of age, (18 for archery), pass a 12-hour coaches training course and have no felony convictions.
The next 4-H shooting sports instructors training will be Dec. 3-4, at the Chisholm Trail Technology Center.
