Local cheerleaders earn all-region
Four local cheerleaders have earned all-region honors and now have a shot at being named to the Oklahoma Cheer Coaches Association All-State team.
Courtney Butts of Kingfi sher, Jaidyn Hudson of Cashion and Reydon Walker and Kyleigh Scott of Crescent were among the 16 named to the all-region team after tryouts last Wednesday.
They will now take part in all-state tryouts Wednesday, Dec. 7, at Washington High School.
There were 16 cheerleaders who advanced from each of the eight regions, which included four from the west and four from the east.
Of those 128, 16 will earn all-state honors for the West and another 16 for the East.
Those selected will perform during the annual Oklahoma Coaches Association All-State games in Tulsa during the last week of July.
The all-region tryouts consisted of a cheer routine that was learned via video, three jumps, one standing tumbling pass and a running tumbling pass.
They were judged on motion technique, voice projection/ inflection, showmanship, jumps, standing tumbling and running tumbling.
The cheerleader awarded the highest point total in each class (2A, 3A, 4A, 5A, 6A) moved on and then the next 11 highest scores regardless of class also advanced.
