Local collision claims Kingfisher woman, critically injures a child

By

An accident northwest of Kingfisher on Thursday claimed the life of a Kingfi sher woman and critically injured a child.

Amber Kay Stewart, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occured about 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of county roads N2800 and E760, according to a report from the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.

That location is approximately four miles north and four-and-a-half miles west of Kingfisher.

A 5-year-old male was flown by medical helicopter from the scene to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.

The report said he was admitted in critical condition with head, arm, leg and internal trunk injuries.

A 9-year-old female and James Bryant Jr., 36, of Kingfisher, also passengers, were treated and released.

Bryant was treated at Mercy Hospital Kingfisher, according to the report, while the child was taken by Kingfisher EMS to Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City before being released.

The report said Stewart was driving a 2008 Pontiac G6 east on E760 and Levi Joe Hunt, 28, Loyal, was southbound on N2800 in a 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500.

Hunt failed to yield at a stop sign and collided with Stewart’s vehicle, the report stated.

The collision caused the Pontiac to overturn one time before coming to rest in the south ditch, ejecting Stewart as it overturned, according to the report.

Filed by Trooper Trent Cagle, the report said Stewart was not wearing a seatbelt, but all three passengers had theirs in use.

Hunt was not injured, the report said.

The accident remains under investigation by the OHP.
