Two Kingfisher people are facing felonies in a case that alleges child abuse.

Charged Tuesday in Kingfisher County District Court were Donald Ray Browning, Jr., and Melissa Daun Browning.

Donald Browning, 47, is charged with child abuse while Melissa Browning, 44, is charged with enabling child abuse.

Both have pleaded not guilty and have court appearances set for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28.

Donald Browning is currently free on a $10,000 bond and Melissa Browning posted a $5,000 bond.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Deputy Charles Blackburn was contacted by the Department of Human Services Child Welfare Division in late July about a case involving child abuse that he was working on at that time.

A minor child had reportedly disclosed to an adult during church camp about being abused by Donald Browning, a relative of hers, with whom she was residing at the time.

The affidavit states Kingfi sher County Sheriff’s Lt. Ken Thompson interviewed the minor child’s older sister, who had taken over temporary guardianship of the minor.

That interview revealed details the minor child shared with her older sister about an incident earlier this year in which she was allegedly hit by Donald Browning with a wooden paddle, the affidavit reads.

He’s accused of hitting the minor’s “legs, the bottom of her foot, her ankle and the tip of her nose” with the paddle, according to the affidavit.

It also stated he “slapped her across her face with his hand and left a mark (bruised up the next day).”

The interview also revealed the minor child reporting that Melissa Browning was in the room at the time of the alleged incident and that she was laughing and told the minor child “you deserve this,” according to the affidavit.

The alleged incident left the minor with a black eye, visible handprint mark or bruise on her face, a bruise on her nose, bruises on her knuckles “and a cantaloupe sized bruise across her lower back/spine area from the wooden paddle,” according to the affidavit.

In an interview with officers, a friend of the minor and that friend’s mother were able to confirm the markings, the affidavit stated.
