Local DKG chapter donates more than 150 books to OES teachers
Five Okarche Elementary School teachers recently received books for their classroom libraries donated by Beta Beta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honor organization of key women educators.
Receiving the books were Lyric Allen (Pre-k), Amy Parcell and Emma Wood (second grade), Abby Chadd (fourth grade) and Amanda Bekkelund (fifth grade).
Chapter members collected children’s books as their annual December community service project. The Beta Beta members sorted the books into grade-appropriate “crates” for distribution.
Over 150 books were donated to the Okarche teachers.
Chapter members Megan Henderson (Okarche Elementary School counselor), Ann Hufnagel (OES librarian) and Beth Schieber (OES tutor and library volunteer) delivered the book-filled crates to the surprised and delighted teachers.
“I want to thank you so much for my new books for my class,” Chadd said when they were delivered to her classroom. “My students and I are so excited to use them.”
These heartfelt words are a testament to the impact the Beta Beta Chapter is making, said Hufnagel.
“These donations will enhance the educational experience of our Okarche Elementary students,” Hufnagel added.
The Beta Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International is a group of dedicated women educators striving to make a difference one teacher at a time.
More than 540 books have been donated to teachers in Okarche, El Reno and Yukon.
The Beta Beta Chapter is just one Oklahoma chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, a professional organization with 50,000 members in 17 countries and all 50 states.
“As we look to the future, we are confident that Beta Beta Chapter will continue to make a positive impact in the lives of children and educators in our communities,” said Schieber, reflecting on the project.
