Local rains followed by first frost

By

Frost - the first of the season coated the ground and auto windshields Tuesday in Kingfisher County.

The arrival of the autumn weather began with rains last week and on Monday, accompanied by cool north breezes.

Local Weather Observer Steve Loftis recorded a low of 29 degrees Tuesday morning.

While the rain was welcome on small grain crops, the cooler weather brought hoodies and jackets into vogue for outdoor wear.

Loftis recorded a total of 1.2 inches of rain on Sunday and Monday from the preceding 24-hour periods – .10 inch on Sunday and 1.10 inches at 7 a.m. on Monday from the Sunday showers.

The two-day accumulations recorded at area Mesonet stations included: .61 inch at Kingfisher, .37 inch at El Reno, .12 inch at Marshall and .05 inch at Watonga.

The weekend rain brought the monthly total in Kingfisher to 4.1 inches and the total for the year to 36.2 inches.
