Lock your trailers, chief says
Kingfisher Police Chief David Catron is advising residents to lock or otherwise secure their utility trailers after two were stolen in a single weekend.
Masonic Lodge secretary Anthony Maschino and scout master David Johnson reported a 10-foot white trailer containing Boy Scout camping gear was stolen sometime before Friday, Feb. 11.
David Perdue reported that his 14-foot black dump trailer was stolen sometime after 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, from 503 W. Bowman, according to police reports.
The Masonic Lodge trailer is a 2007 Haulmark with black vinyl on the back left door and a three-inch Masonic emblem where a tag would be.
The trailer contained spare sleeping bags, cooking utensils, water jugs and two cooking grates belonging to the local scout troop, Johnson told police.
The Perdue trailer is described as having damage to the front end.
“We are asking everyone to secure their utility trailers and box trailers in either a well-lit, secure location or make sure you have some type of locking device on them,” Catron said.
Catron posted a photo to the KPD Facebook Page of a security lock designed to prevent a trailer’s coupler from being attached to a vehicle’s trailer hitch.
“Also, make sure you have the serial number or vehicle identification number written down so that we can enter it into the NCIC system immediately if it is stolen.”
Catron also asks all residents to be on the alert for any vehicle hooking up to and moving a trailer at an odd time or in a suspicious manner.
“We’d rather you call us and it be a false alarm than miss the chance to stop a crime in progress,” Catron said.
