LSF Director Visits Lions
OFFICIAL VISIT – The executive director of the Oklahoma Lions Service Foundation made a visit to the Kingfi sher club last week. Marie Burns updated Kingfi sher Lions on a number of projects. “The last couple of years, we’ve branched out and really tried to help clubs more,” said Burns, noting the OLSF’s mission statement of providing “assistance and funding for Lions Clubs of Oklahoma charitable and benevolent services.” One of the ways, she said, is running a local club’s fundraiser through the OLSF, which is a 501(c)(3). That allows contributions to those fundraisers to be tax deductible, she said. Burns also discussed several of the Lions’ statewide programs, including Oklahoma Lions KidSight, which aims to safeguard vision of children aged 6 months to 6 years. By using a specialized screening camera, a number of risk factors can be detected in children that may otherwise go undetected and undiagnosed. Burns said through the screening programs, about 10 to 20 percent of children come back with a referral for further screening. “If you get two out of every 10 children, you’ve done a lot,” Burns said. “This is a wonderful program.” Burns, left, is pictured with Kingfi sher Lions Club Vice President Lindsey Beaman.
