May sales tax checks higher for most towns as well as county

By

Kingfisher, Hennessey, Loyal, Okarche and Kingfisher County all had gains in their May sales tax checks compared to May 2024, according to the Oklahoma Tax Commission.

The May distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from March business.

Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from March 16 to 31 and estimated sales from April 1 to 15.

The disbursement of $206,739,760 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $4,636,587 from the $202,103,173 distributed to them in May last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $40,487,120.

In county returns, the counties shared in a $34,646,337 sales tax disbursement and $8,256,046 in a use tax disbursement.

Use tax is collected on purchases made out of state and delivered in-state. It includes purchases of drilling products used by the oil and gas industry and can fluctuate widely depending to the areas where well drilling is under way.

Comparisons of use tax returns for local entities with the May 2025 amount listed first and the May 2024 second follow:

Cashion – 13,629.31 and $10,708.17.

Dover – $13,759.47 and $3,085.83.

Hennessey – $29,549.83 and $16,780.45.

Kingfisher – $58,833.66 and $61,146.44

Okarche – $5,281.35 and $36,614.41.

Kingfisher County – 93,710.06 and $67,860.30.

Use tax is collected at the same rate as entities’ sales tax. Loyal does not collect a use tax.
