Memorial Day service slated
The Keith Lowry-Henry Ellyson Post 5 of The American Legion will present its annual Memorial Day Service at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Kingfisher Cemetery.
Commander Joe Bliss will serve as emcee and speaker for the event.
(Note: Bliss was incorrectly identified in Wednesday’s print edition as “John Bliss.”)
John Hopkins will be the chaplain and Vortex, an acapella quartet, will perform patriotic songs.
Gladys Hopkins, Post 5 Auxiliary president, and Bliss will lay wreaths on the Kingfisher County Veterans Memorial.
Kenneth Tollison will command the post’s firing squad, which honors departed comrades.
Post members will also be placing flags on veterans’ graves beginning at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, May 28. All help is welcomed.
Members of Memory Lane Inc. will be on hand at the cemetery gazebo handing out water and helping visitors locate graves.
The organization also will be accepting donations to help replace trees along Memory Lane, the treelined stretch of S.H. 33 between 13th Street and the cemetery entrance.
