Mixed medias collide at Okarche art show
‘Collection of Curiosities’ showcase students’ talents at annual exhibition, auction
Good afternoon, art enthusiasts!
This year’s highly anticipated art show, presented by the Okarche Public Schools art program, is set to be a feast for the eyes and senses, featuring a dazzling array of mixed media works that invite you to feel the art as much as see it.
The event promises to be a kaleidoscope of color and vibrancy, showcasing the impressive talents of students from kindergarten through 12th grade under the guidance of instructor Halli Ford.
Among the standout pieces are the sixth graders’ acrylic paintings of lollipops, expertly layered with resin to create a stunning three-dimensional effect that captures the glossy allure of real lollipops.
The creative efforts of these young artists are truly a sight to behold.
Sophomore Henry Austin has also made waves with his meticulous pencil recreation of the Fr. Stanley Rother shrine on canvas.
His work pays homage to the revered figure with remarkable detail and precision.
Adding to the exhibit’s charm are the 4D art tables crafted by sophomores through seniors.
These students have transformed everyday items into larger-than-life artistic statements, pushing the boundaries of traditional art forms.
Mark your calendars for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, when the art exhibit will open its doors to the public.
It will be held in the Okarche Elementary School cafeteria.
Visitors will have the opportunity to explore our talented students’ diverse and innovative creations.
Our art classes span from kindergarten through 12th grade, with each level delving into the works of renowned artists like Remington, Kahlo, O’Keeffe, and Degas.
The younger students (K-fourth) have produced collaborative artworks for their respective classes, while fifth and sixth graders have each crafted individual pieces centered around a common theme.
For the seventh-12th graders, the first semester is dedicated to learning various art techniques, including drawing, painting, three-dimensional art and ceramics.
Following the Christmas break, students engage in independent study to focus on their preferred art forms, resulting in an impressive array of projects.
The gallery show and auction serve as the school’s spring showcase, where students proudly display their talents and the community comes together to support the arts.
Last year’s auction was a resounding success, raising enough funds to purchase a laser engraver – an invaluable tool for our budding artists.
We invite everyone to join us for an evening of artistic celebration and support our young artists as they continue to explore and express their creativity.
