The Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry has selected 15 high school seniors from across Oklahoma to serve on the 2024-25 Oklahoma Agriculture Youth Council.

Among them is Kate Myers, who will be a senior next fall at Lomega High School.

The council was created in 2019 by Oklahoma Secretary of Agriculture Blayne Arthur to develop future agricultural leaders by teaching professional skills, exposing members to diverse agricultural operations and offering shortterm job experience in agriculture fields.

Council members will serve a year-long term, with approximately seven sessions and multiple volunteer opportunities throughout the year.

Sessions will include visits to Oklahoma agricultural companies and organizations, opportunities to learn about the legislative process and job shadows with industry professionals.

Myers is the daughter of Mike and Julie Myers.

She is active in basket- track and field, cross country, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Student Council and FFA.

Myers will be the Lomega FFA chapter president next year after having already served as sentinel and vice president.

She will also be the Student Council vice president in 2024-25.

On top of numerous awards and honors in athletics, academics and FFA, Myers is a member of the National Honor Society, Oklahoma Honor Society, has been named to the Superintendent’s Honor Roll and is a member of the school’s academic team.

She is also the chief executive officer of Beef for the Bank, a non-profit supervised agricultural experience (SAE) that helps address hunger and food insecurity by providing beef for local food banks.

Her sister, Madi, started the project in the spring of 2020 during COVID and Kate took it over in January of last year.

After high school Myers plans to attend Oklahoma State University and major in agricultural business.

Joining Myers in being selected to the council were: Hudson Andrews, Purcell; Bridger Arrington, Mulhall; Davin Budy, Alva; Coy Davidson, Lawton; Bonham Eslick, Apache; Kalen Groves, Beggs; Jocelyn James, Ada; Taryn McCaa, Foster; Addyson Schneberger, Carnegie; Allison Schneeberger, Ponca City; Mollie Throckmorton, Guthrie; Callen Veit, Stillwater; Alexander Westfall, Fairland; and Paisley White, Fairview
