New look for KT&FP online

More user-friendly website showcases advertisers

By

Times and Free Press

readers and

advertisers will find much

more to love on the

newspaper’s new w website, which

launched Monday.

Still located at kingfisherpress.net, the new site is loaded with features that make it more user-friendly, Publisher Barry Reid said. The new site provides free web-based advertising for every advertiser in the print edition, Reid said. Beginning each Wednesday and Sunday, the newspaper’s twice-a-week publication dates, the display advertisements from the corresponding print edition will appear randomly throughout the website as clickable internet ads.

Each ad is linked to a unique local marketplace landing page created for that advertiser, which will feature photos, basic business information such as address, phone number, hours of operation and a general description of products and/or services available. The page also will include a clickable map to provide driving directions to the business and a link to the business or organization’s own webpage, if available.

“We’ll provide a web presence for businesses and organizations who aren’t already on the web and we’ll be driving more web traffic to those with existing websites,” Reid said.

Readers trying to find a particular product or service also will be able to find every current Times and Free Press advertiser gathered in a virtual marketplace, where advertisers’ landing pages are organized into helpful categories such as “Automotive,” “Real Estate,” “Farm and Home,” “Health and Wellness” and more.

“It’s a huge value added for our print advertisers at no additional cost,” Reid said.

Classified advertisers won’t be left out. A link on the website will allow even nonsubscribers to view the full classified page from the most current edition.

In addition to the marketplace feature, readers also will find a more user-friendly browsing experience, with photos, headlines and highlights to all the stories in the print and digital edition and easy-to-find links to submission forms for engagements, weddings, births, anniversaries, obituaries, letters to the editor, news tips and upcoming events, including the ability to upload related photos directly from the website.

“Along with that, we’ve eliminated the $5 photo fee we traditionally charged for new arrivals, obituaries and second photos on anniversary stories,” Reid said. “We realize your photos make our newspaper better and we want to make it as easy as possible for you to send them in.”

Other than the digital edition, all content on the website can be accessed for free through Feb. 18.

After that date, current print subscribers will have access to all the content on the website simply by registering under the “Subscribe” link at the top of the page.

Subscribers who have already registered online, including current digital-only subscribers, will be asked to log in by entering their username and password to access some content after Feb. 18.

Some stories, such as obituaries and sports, will continue to be visible in their entirety without a subscription.

The same company responsible for the new digital edition that was rolled out in November, eType Newspaper Services, is hosting and managing the new website, which is expected to be more functional and reliable than the previous site.

“If you haven’t looked at our website lately, we encourage you to visit us at kingfisherpress.net and play around with our new features,” Reid said. “We think you’ll like what you see.”

If you type www.kingfisherpress.net and you still see the big red “subscribe here” button, you’re still looking at the old site and may need to clear your browsing history and launch the site again.
