Newest local OHCE group Queen Bees were ‘buzzily’ tending to Kingfisher hives in 2025

By
Dr. Ashley Cowan Neal Queen Bees President

The Queen Bees are the newest OHCE group in Kingfisher and had multiple community outreach projects last year.

The group’s second project saw members spend two months gathering items to donate to the First Shamrock Care Center in Kingfisher.

Amy Tollison saw the need posted on Facebook, presented the idea to the club members and the Queen Bees flew into action. On Oct. 21, 2025, they donated a ton of items including two crocheted scarves and pillow (made by Amy Tollison), clothes, coats, blankets, socks, undergarments and bathroom and hygiene products.

Two of the club members, Linda Britton and Aletha Bengs, went above and beyond and donated a total of seven 30-gallon trash bags full of clothes, etc. just themselves.

At first we felt we were just “filling someone’s honey pot,” but when Dr. Cowan Neal asked the First Shamrock workers about their facility, she learned that they tend to a lot of people who have been incarcerated or homeless, who have little to no family.

When this information was presented to the Queen Bees, Aletha Bengs stated something to the effect of, “Well we should get them something nicer than clothes and underwear!”

Bengs, along with her daughter, Linda Britton, spearheaded and delivered a very special gift to the First Shamrock residents and workers.

They ordered materials and handmade them all a little potted succulent to brighten up their spaces. Each had a unique plant and individual pot.

They made and delivered 57 little artificial plants (40 for the residents and 17 for the staff members) and also made one for each club member.

New officers were elected in November 2025 for the Queen Bees OHCE club: Cowan Neal was re-elected president; Butcher was elected vice president; Amy Tollison was elected secretary; and Wittrock was elected treasurer.

The Queen Bee members also include Rena Tollison, Lucy Von Pops, Bengs and Britton.

For their final and Christmas-centered community service project of the year on Dec. 9, 2025, members helped provide numerous items for the Santa’s Toyland H.U.G.S. drive.

The Queen Bees donated approximately $400 in hats, underwear, gloves, socks and coats to the qualifying families in the community.

All the donations made this year and the projects that were completed were from the Queen Bees’ individual giving – not club funds.

The Queen Bees love to serve the Kingfisher community and all the lovely little hives here. They are excited about 2026 and all the sweet honey that will be shared and gathered from their time working together.

If you are interested in joining the Queen Bees and making a positive impact in our community, or just need a group of friends to do fun outings, meetings and projects with, feel free to text Dr. Ashley Cowan Neal at 405.714.4096.

The group meets the second Thursday of the month at 11 a.m. at the main hive: Optimize Living Wellness Clinic: 212 North Main St., Kingfisher, OK 73750.
