Program claims 25th regional crown, advances to state

The Okarche High School speech team won its 25th southwest regional speech and debate title and advanced 17 students in 28 events to the state contest.

Okarche won the team sweepstakes trophy at the 3A regional held March 25-26 with Crescent High School placing second and Lawton Academy taking third. The regional was held at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford.

Okarche also swept the top four places in two events and the top three places in two other events.

McKenzie Stewart will take three events to the state tournament as she was first in poetry, third in original oratory and fourth in monologue.

Emily Neuenschwander was regional champion in humorous interp and humorous duet with her partner Emma Stover.

Marley Hill and Kenzie Beard teamed to claim the regional runner-up medals in dramatic duet.

Hill also was regional runner-up in original oratory and third place in monologue.

Beard was third in poetry.

Kylie Bailey advanced three events to the state competition.

Bailey was first in original oratory, second in dramatic interp and fifth in poetry.

Riley Black was named regional runner-up in humorous interp.

Brody Sadler was third in domestic extemporaneous speaking, Wyatt Lovins placed fourth in both humorous interp and dramatic interp.

Madison Schaefer and Zoe Palmer were tournament champions in dramatic duet.

Palmer also was champion in standard oratory and runner-up in prose.

Chloe Goble was the champion in monologue, third in humorous interp, and teamed with Afton Shirey to place third in humorous duet.

Shirey was also regional runner-up in standard oratory and third in prose.

Rylee Bomhoff was the regional champion in prose and the regional runner-up in humorous duet with her partner Reagan Marler.

Suzann Smith was third in standard oratory and Anna Shirey was fourth in prose.

The state tournament will be held on April 8-9 on the campus of the University of Oklahoma.
