Members of the Okarche High School speech team brought home the second- place sweepstakes trophy for Class 3A from Marlow on Nov. 19.

Lawton Academy of Arts and Sciences won the tournament with Hennessey High School taking third.

In addition, OHS qualifi ed in 14 events for the regional speech and debate competition later in 2023.

Senior Brody Sadler was second in original oratory and third in domestic extemporaneous speaking.

Senior Riley Black was the tournament champion in humorous interp and Kylie Bailey, another senior, placed second in dramatic interp and qualified for regionals in poetry.

Two other seniors, Madison Schaefer and Sara Leck, also added points to the team victory.

Schaefer teamed with junior Reagan Marler to place second in dramatic duet. Schaefer was also a finalist in dramatic interp.

Leck was one of three OHS qualifiers in monologue.

Junior Chloe Goble was tournament champion in monologue with Anna Shirey qualifying for the regional competition as well.

Shirey also qualified in domestic extemporaneous speaking.

Jace Rother was the tournament champion in original oratory and qualifi ed in poetry for regionals.

Suzann Smith was a regional qualifier in foreign extemporaneous speaking and Afton Shirey was a finalist in poetry.

Sophomore Wager Black was the tournament runner up in prose and Kyle Sadler was third in standard oratory and a finalist in foreign extemporaneous speaking.

Zoe Palmer, another sophomore, was a finalist in standard oratory.

Freshman Hunter Buck was the tournament runner- up in standard oratory and a finalist in foreign extemporaneous speaking. Maddie Vogt, another freshman, was a finalist in foreign extemporaneous speaking.

Jaci Black, coached by her sister Riley, placed second in the novice division of poetry.

Members of the speech team will now turn their attention to producing two short Christmas plays for their Christmas dinner theatre on Sunday, Dec. 11.
