OHS speech has strong showing in January
The Okarche High School speech team competed in two competitions during the month of January and qualified in 18 events for regionals and received two school awards.
On Jan. 22, eight OHS students competed in Comanche High School’s invitational tournament and brought home the sweepstakes trophy in class 3A.
Individual awards went to McKenzie Stewart, first in poetry; Brody Sadler, first in domestic extemp and second in poetry; Riley Black, third in poetry; Anna Shirey, first in prose, first in dramatic duet with her sister Afton, and third in standard oratory; Chloe Goble, first in standard oratory; Suzann Smith, second in prose; and Zoe Palmer, first in dramatic interp and second in domestic extemp.
Eight Okarche speech team members competed virtually in the Sequoyah Spotlight, sponsored by Sequoyah-Tahlequah High School.
Emily Neuenschwander and Emma Stover teamed up to place first in dramatic duet.
Kylie Bailey led an OHS sweep of the awards in poetry with Madison Schaefer placing second and Kaylea Steelman taking third.
Marley Hill was the tournament champion in monologue, and the team of Rylie Bomhoff and Rea gan Marler claimed first in humorous duet.
Bomhoff also placed second in dramatic interp.
The team also amassed enough points to place third as a team in class 3A.
Okarche will next compete virtually in the Norma J. Smith Memorial Tournament sponsored by Poteau High School.
