OHS speech team takes part in recent virtual competitions

Members of the Okarche High School speech team have competed in two virtual tournaments during the month of February.

In a virtual tournament, students either submit video recordings of their performances for judging or compete via video-conferencing software.

In both competitions, OHS received the team sweepstakes trophy.

During the first weekend of February, nine Okarche students competed in the Poteau Invitational Speech tournament.

Emily Neuenschwander was first in poetry.

Kylie Bailey received two first-place awards: one in original oratory and one in dramatic interp.

Rylie Bomhoff also placed first in her two events: prose and humorous interp.

The team of Chloe Goble and Afton Shirey was the first place winners in humorous duet.

Suzann Smith was first in standard oratory with Harper White taking second. White also placed second in prose.

OHS had seven students participate in the Weatherford Invitational with six students placing in five events and the sixth student being a finalist.

McKenzie Stewart was first in monologue, Brody Sadler was first in domestic extemporaneous speaking, the team of Madison Schaefer and Zoe Palmer were second in dramatic duet, Chloe Goble was second in humorous interp and Afton Shirey placed third in prose.

Emma Stover was a finalist in original oratory.
