Okarche claims 3A sweepstakes at Alva tourney

Eight members of the Okarche High School speech team competed recently in the Alva Invitational Speech and Debate Tournament and brought home the class 3A sweepstakes.

The Alva competition drew entries from 10 schools in class 3A with Hennessey taking second and Cherokee placing third.

Senior Brody Sadler was second in domestic extemporaneous speaking and teamed with junior Anna Shirey to place first in debate.

Shirey also placed first in original oratory and was a finalist in domestic extemp.

Kylie Bailey, another senior, was tournament champion in humorous interp and placed fourth in monologue.

Senior Sara Leck was runner-up in dramatic interp. Leck and her partner, Violet Lawrence, placed third in humorous duet.

Lawrence, a sophomore, also brought home two additional third-place medals, one in prose and one in standard oratory.

Junior Chloe Goble placed first in poetry and second in original oratory. Afton Shirey, also a junior, was third in original oratory and fourth in poetry.

Freshman Maddie Vogt placed fourth in foreign extemporaneous speaking and was a finalist in prose.
